Wealth Meter

Do you have an offer or deal?

Our picks for the Top 2 places to shop for food and essentials  this week are: Safeway Canada and Superstore. These stores will give you more bang for your bucks, especially if time is limited.

In addition to savings on food and essentials, Superstore also has 50% off  all Baker’s Secret bake wares, 50% off on all Anchor Hocking products and 50% off all CorningWare products.

It was quite hard to pick just two stores this week, because depending on what you are looking for, Walmart also has some good deals. They are celebrating their anniversary event, from Friday September 13 to Thursday, September 19th, so they have some good deals on electronics and kitchen appliances. They also have Bakers Secret bake wares for $2.97 each (should you need to replace your old ones). If you are looking for good deals on cleaning and laundry products it would definitely be worth it to pop into a Walmart store.

Because Shopper’s Drug Mart is not a full grocery store, they do not qualify to be on our Top-2 List, however, they are worth mentioning this week. They have some good deals on a variety of items , including cleaning, laundry, food, snack items, etc.). Their 2 Day Sale is on Sunday and Monday, September 15th and 16th.

Tips On How To Save Money On Groceries

Tips On How To Save Money On Groceries by Eric Stafford

It is quite expensive to feed your family. Particularly when you eat nutritional, unrefined foods. Groceries are generally one of the most significant monthly budget expenses. There are approaches you can, and should, employ to cut down the grocery bill. Below I’ll provide you 7 easy techniques on how to save money on groceries. You should try this beginning next week to be able to watch your costs decrease and debt snowball grow!

1. Plan

Preparing a budget is critical to prosperous personal finance. Budgeting is basically developing a plan for your money. Scheduling costs is vital when changing your personal finance from disorganized to sensible. Changing your grocery shopping approach is the easiest method to lower monthly costs.

Supermarkets were built to get you to spend as much as you can. This is the reason the milk and eggs are in the back corner, so that you have to go past the millions of other offers the store has prior to being able to get what you came for. If you are disorderly and have no strategy, you are likely to buy more than you need. To prevent this from occurring, you will have to prepare your grocery list in advance. You’ll want to make only one trip to the grocery store in a week. The more frequently you go, the greater chance it is you will spend more.

Develop a plan for your dishes for the week. Go through the newspaper ads for your favorite food store and locate items which are discounted to develop your meal plans for the next 7 days. Every dish, not merely dinner. You need to identify 21 meal plans prior to you go into the store. It seems like a great deal of work, but it usually is not. When you take the time to make a plan, you will save money.

2. Shop With A List

This step goes in conjunction with the previous step. You’ve got the advertisements, you know what is discounted, you know what you are going to be making for each meal, and you know what you need to make each meal. Once you’ve checked your current inventory for products you may have, write everything you will need on the list.

Creating a list is going to do three things to help you lower expenses. First it will ensure you do not purchase something that you currently have on hand. Second, you will be purchasing products that are discounted. And third, it will keep you from being forced to go back the store just to get one item you missed, and end up coming out with a bag full of other items you “had to have”.

Another good list writing strategy is to get a dry erase board with a magnetic back and stick it on the refrigerator. You can then use it to write the menu for the week so it is there for reference so that you do not forget what it is that you intended. Additionally you can use it to jot down stuff which you have run out of so you’re able to purchase them next time they go on sale. Additionally, it is helpful to write down items prior to running out so you can hold off until they do go on sale.

3.Use Coupons And Watch Per Unit Prices

There’s a wide variety of methods to look for coupons today. They are available by mail, in the newspaper, in magazines, on the internet and on your receipts. A lot of grocery stores offer you double and in some cases triple coupon days. Whenever possible, you ought to shop on this day to take advantage of the added discounts.

Be conscious of per unit prices when choosing which product to buy. At times the price displays for comparable products might be based on various per unit pricing structures. Ensure you buy the product with the lower per unit price. You’ll want to consider in-store bonus card savings in addition to coupon savings. This occasionally necessitates a calculator.

4. Shop Alone

This is not always possible when you have young children. But when feasible, you really should shop on your own. When you have your children with you, it is far more challenging to stay on the system. You can easily become distracted and are consistently fielding requests for a variety of items you nor them require. Children are certainly not the only distractions, however. Spouses, girlfriends, friends, mothers, etc. all serve as distractions and can lead to buying arbitrary items you had not planned to be shopping for. A few additional items here and there really adds up throughout the year. If at all possible, shop alone. Not only will you save some money, but it provides you some moments to yourself.

5. Don’t Be Afraid Of Store Brand Items

There are only 2 items in the grocery store that I purchase big brands, and for good reason: trash bags and toilet paper. The generic or store brand of virtually every other product is equivalent to the name brands; but they are much less expensive. It shouldn’t go unsaid, however, that coupons and sales may decrease the cost of the name brand even more than the price of the store brand. For this reason you should always pay attention to the unit prices.

6. Eat Breakfast

Eating breakfast is important for a lot of reasons. For starters, your biggest meal of the day should be breakfast. It readies your body for the day ahead, and it is necessary after the fast you are waking up from. Also, eating a solid breakfast will make you consume less throughout the day. Meaning not only less calories, but less money consumed as well.

7. Brown Bag Lunch

Nowadays it is more like portable cooler lunch, but you get the idea. Eating out, even at lunch, is more entertainment than food.

When you are planning your week’s meals in step 1, think about preparing meals that will permit leftovers that you can take for lunch.

Be focused on our objective of cutting costs and growing that debt snowball. You must find ways to cut your budget and saving money on groceries is a fast and convenient way to do so.
